I couldn't ignore the fact that my old pawtutorial: [link] got pretty popular (god knows why). And since I really dislike the old tutorial and got much better since then, I decided to throw together a new one.

This time I devided it into styles. First I added for reference purposes the realistic style (I hardly draw realistic, so bare with me, I used reference photos and tried to point out a few important details in blue, if you cannot read my ugly handwriting, note me). The second style is the one I normally use. My style is much more bolt and can be used for wolves, werewolves or even big cats. The third style is the simple lined style I used for gradient-shading. Thought it might interest someone.

I didn't explain my steps , but here a little how-to (it's simple, it's also explained in my old paw tutorial):
I work nearly the same way in every style, only the result is different.
First row (the light purpel sketches): As always I begin with simple lines and a circle for the joint.
Second row (red sketches): I add in the details. For the realistic and my style it's the same, for the third style I use oval shapes to define the toes.
Last row (black lines): Drawing on a new layer the cleaned outlines, also adding more details.
Noteable things: Drawing wolfpaws realistic you'll notice that the toes are pretty edgy and boxlike. You also have a hard time to see the pawpads as long as the wolf stands on its feet. Important things in realistic wolf paws are the hardly visible dewclaw and the carpal ball (the ball shaped thingy on the wrist on the backside of the frontlegs, it's above the dewclaw). Also noteable is the thick vein on the hindlegs. btw: Canine claws are never, I repeat NEVER sharp and pointy. They are always round. Unlike cats all canines use them only to run, not to hunt or fight.

Noteable things in my style: The way I draw paws is much more muscular than in realism. You nearly always can see the pawpads. You can also see the sinews.

Noteable things in the third style: Claws are pretty small, toes are really round, pawpads are nearly always visible.

I hope that's enough.
